Sahara, the singer and bassist of Like The Desert, formed the band in September 2009 in Chicago as a way to distract her husband, Rob, from World of Warcraft.

The two had been in many bands though never with each other. Sahara became a professional opera singer around 2002, abandoning writing her own lyrics and music when they didn't pay the bills. Rob, a former drummer for a touring metal band for five years, had given up on his dream to play music, rejecting it as impractical around 2001.

But neither gave up their dreams entirely, and being poor gave them an excuse to unearth their music equipment as an alternative to video games. "Poorhouse" will appear on their upcoming release, "Our Hope, Abandoned."
